The Owensboro Human Relations Commission (OHRC) announces our 2nd annual Dreamer’s Dash 5K Run/Walk. This is a timed event and open to the community. This 5K Run/Walk will honor the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. March on Washington August 28, 1963, for jobs and freedom where he delivered his iconic “I Have a Dream” speech to an estimated 250,000 demonstrators. The proceeds will support the Owensboro Human Relations Commission in its efforts to strengthen and unify the Owensboro community by advancing equality, inclusion and belonging for its diverse peoples through advocacy, education empowerment and accountability.
We are also excited to include a poster contest this year to help with community involvement and include young people in the experience of honoring MLK and healthy living. Our theme this year is, “If you can’t fly, then run; if you can’t run, then walk; if you can’t walk, then crawl, but by all means keep moving forward.” Interested poster contestants need to submit a standard poster (18” x 24” or 24 x 36”) using our themed quote or any motivational Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. quote on a standard poster board. Posters will be displayed along the race route. There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prize winners. Winners will be announced on race day, and all participants will get a certificate of participation. Please include your name, age, grade, school address, telephone number and email address. If you are interested in participating, please submit your poster to OHRC no later than, Monday, August 17th at: 101 East 4th St., Owensboro, KY 42303, Attention: OHRC Poster Contest.
