OWENSBORO, Ken. (WFIE) – In Owensboro, new story panels have been unveiled at Moneta Sleet Jr. Park.
That was possible thought the Chamber of Commerce’s Chamber Young Professionals in partnership with the City of Owensboro and the Parks and Recreation.
Several people from the community came out to see the new story panels.
Each of these story panels give a chronological order of Sleet’s history and achievements.
“The biggest thing is they are here to teach the younger generation about the legacy of Moneta Sleet, and the legacy of so many people who fought for civil rights and spoke out in a time when they were told they shouldn’t or couldn’t,” says Bob Glenn, city commissioner. “I think its important for us to take those lessons and apply them to the times we are living today.”
The parks and recreation department will be helping in taking care of the story panels
