Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce hosts State of Community Addresses

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) – On Thursday, the Owensboro Chamber of Commerce hosted it’s State of the Community Addresses.

They say this is a part of the first rooster booster meeting of the new year.

The meeting is meant for the community to gather and hear the future goals for both the city of Owensboro, and Daviess County.

The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce has hosted these rooster booster meetings monthly for decades.

It has been a long-standing tradition that the first meeting of the year features city leaders.

Owensboro Mayor Tom Watson and Daviess County Judge Executive Charlie Castlen took the stage Thursday at the Convention Center.

Together they reflected, sharing the successes of the past year while looking forward to plans for the future.

Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, Candance Castlen Brake, said “It’s our kick off of the year, it’s the first event of the year and that’s always fun. Having our executives from both local government municipalities is so important for our business community.”

When addressing the crowd, both Mayor Watson and Judge Executive Castlen, focused on the progress that was made in 2023.

“We got everything going in the right direction, we’re financially very sound. For the first time since I’ve ever been elected, we weren’t broke so I’m extremely happy about that,” said Mayor Watson.

Both leaders also gave thanks to the people they serve for what they say was a successful 2023 year.

Mayor Watson also described how it’s a team effort between, city county and commerce to create that success.

“If the companies and the businesses are performing well and the product is being appreciated then we’ll do well so that’s our job to give them an environment where they can succeed,” said Mayor Watson.

While Judge Executive Castlen said he has high hopes for 2024.

“The county is at least as strong as it was last year we’ve had a lot of positives, and in general this year’s going to be better than last year,” said Judge Exec. Castlen.

The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce hosts public meetings like this on the first Thursday of every month with hopes to connect the community and continue growing the economy of Owensboro and Daviess County.
