Chamber Member of the Week: Efficient Air Heating and Cooling

Billy Emberton opened Efficient Air Heating and Cooling nearly six years ago on his own with zero clients. Since then, the company has evolved to boast 1,200 clients and 10 employees with a wealth of experience.

Emberton purchased and renovated a brick-and-mortar location on the corner of Sweeney and Parrish and has grown the business from there. With more than 33 years of experience in the industry, he said the feeling he gets when helping someone out is what keeps him going.

“The satisfaction of simply helping someone to have heat or air means as much to me as anything,” Emberton said. “I’m blessed to be able to make something from nothing, but when someone bakes you cookies to send you on your way after helping them out — there’s nothing better than that.”

Emberton has a master’s license and spent the decade before opening the business working at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in the maintenance department. Despite reservations, he decided it was time to venture out independently at the age of 47.

“I started with zero clients but soon acquired enough to hire a helper. I was running the business for half of my day and working in sheet metal the other half to continue to make ends meet,” he said. “There were definitely several long days and nights, but it was worth it. We seemed to double in size every year.”

He recently purchased Dan K. Service Company from Dan Kazlauskas, adding 1,200 clients to the already substantial customer base. Kazlauskas remains on staff at Efficient Air, bringing a plethora of insight and expertise to the business.

Emberton added that he’s blessed with a great team of employees.

“We have a great team. I have some of the best employees in Owensboro,” Emberton said. “They make it great coming into work every day.”

Efficient Air Heating and Cooling specializes in heating, cooling, and air quality, offering a wide array of services. Those services range from fast HVAC installation and prompt repairs to seasonal maintenance and affordable and reliable replacement.

Emberton was born and raised in Owensboro and graduated from Daviess County High School. He takes pride in being able to service the community that raised him.

“I’m blessed to be from here and find it rewarding to be able to give back,” he said. “I still get that grateful feeling when I help someone out. As long as that feeling is there, I’m not going to keep going.”
