Chamber to host drive-thru COVID-19 vaccine clinic on Thursday

The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce will host a free drive-thru COVID-19 vaccine clinic at First Christian Church (700 J.R. Miller Blvd.) from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday.

The Green River District Health Department will provide the option of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine or the two-dose Moderna vaccine. Individuals that choose to receive the Moderna vaccine will be contacted by the Health Department to schedule their second dose following 28 days. Both vaccines are approved for individuals aged 18 and older.

“We had such great success at our last drive-thru vaccine clinic organized with the Health Department that we didn’t hesitate to provide another opportunity for individuals to get their shot,” said Candance Castlen Brake, President and CEO of the Chamber. “We’ve seen the transformative power and efficacy of these vaccines as fewer people are getting sick, and with the new variants it’s more important than ever to get vaccinated.”

There is no cost to receive the COVID-19 vaccine, regardless of insurance status. No appointment is required, and walk-ups are accepted. Individuals must bring a photo ID and health insurance card, if applicable.

The clinic will take place in the parking lot at First Christian Church, which can be entered via J.R. Miller Boulevard. Individuals will be directed to registration and then to receive their vaccine without having to exit their vehicle.

“Our partnership with the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce has given us a great opportunity to increase the vaccine confidence among our community members,” said Lyndsey Hagan, Daviess County Nurse Supervisor with the Health Department. “We want to educate and address any questions or concerns that hesitant individuals may have.”

Reverend Chris Michael of First Christian Church said they are grateful to be “a small part of the efforts in our community to make us safer and healthier.”

Individuals will leave with their official CDC vaccination card and some free merchandise from the Green River District Health Department and Kentucky Wesleyan College, the July Rooster Booster sponsor. The giveaway items are limited and available while supplies last.

Free transportation is available via GRITS when scheduled 24 hours in advance. Call 270-686-1651 for information. Translators and translation services will be available on-site.
