County fair a chance to celebrate local agriculture community

This week, the Daviess County Lion’s Club hosts our longstanding tradition of the Daviess County Fair. The Fair is an opportunity for us all to come together to learn about and celebrate one of the pillars of our community’s character and economy — agriculture. It is also an opportunity just to have good family fun.

How many opportunities do most children and adults have to see livestock up close? From lambs and goats to swine, beef and dairy cattle, there will be much to experience and learn. The 4-H Garden Exhibit and crop exhibits will be open for those who are interested in the plant side of agriculture. This is such an opportunity for enrichment for children who live in town who may not have exposure to food sources.

It is a time to delight in our young leaders in 4-H, Future Farmers of America and Future Homemakers of America. These young men and women will be leading our community soon.

Every night there will be one of those unique experiences that are so entertaining. The Firefighter Challenge will wow you with the strength and dedication of our firefighters. The truck and tractor pull will have fireworks in addition to the fun show itself.

Laser tag, Hawthorne’s Bazaar Circus, inflatables and carnival rides are open each evening and free with paid admission to the fair.

If you have never attended, you are missing fun and the opportunity to celebrate our Earth and our neighbors who produce the food we eat.
