Ribbon cuttings a time of celebration

In 2018, we will have the pleasure of officiating more than 50 ribbon cuttings.

I always say it’s my favorite part of the job — celebrating with our Chamber Members. Whether it’s a brand-new business or an existing business that’s expanded or grown its business into something greater, being there and seeing the joy on their faces when that ribbon is cut makes my heart happy. This past week, we did a lot of celebrating with family-owned and operated businesses, and that is extra special.

Wednesday, we spent the day in West Louisville with our friends at Diamond Lake Resort and the Preservation Station Restaurant. Brian Smith, with incredible support from his wife Janice, came up with the conception, designed the machine and guided bringing the Ultimate Drift Experience to life. Nowhere else in the country is there a commercial-use drift track, except for west Daviess County. An idea and courage made that happen.

Watching Jennifer Higdon talk about the history of Preservation Station and the newly opened restaurant there, you couldn’t help but feel pride for her never-give-up attitude. And watching her give praise to her mother, husband and other members of her family reminded us of the importance of having a great support system. Creativity and having faith made that happen.

Thursday, it was Consumer Mall and young professional Barrett Smith. As Barrett talked about how thankful he was for everyone attending the ribbon cutting and about his business, his mother, father and sister all beamed with pride watching him. Trust and respect made that happen.

And Friday, at Porter Speech Pathology, we learned about three generations of women, all devoting themselves to the same calling. Emily Porter showed me around her beautiful practice with pride, grace and a visible desire to help others. She explained that her mother was a speech pathologist and her oldest daughter is on her way to becoming one. Love and a willingness to serve made that happen.

We see your hard work. We recognize your drive to do great things. And we notice all of the incredible people who stand by you, encourage you and help you along the way. As always, thank you for allowing us to serve you and to celebrate with you, your families and those sure to follow.
