Owensboro Community & Technical College is offering local employers a way to grow talent from within through its GO Careers program — a work-and-learn pathway that allows employees to earn an associate degree in business administration while maintaining full-time jobs.
The next cohort begins August 18, and spots are still available.
The program is modeled after the nationally recognized GO FAME initiative and was launched locally in 2016 through a partnership with the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation and the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce.
“This program gives students the chance to grow their skills while maintaining full-time jobs,” said Alicyn Rodgers, Program Coordinator. “It’s incredibly rewarding to watch them advance both professionally and personally.”
GO Careers uses a cohort model and blends classroom instruction with on-the-job experience. Students attend classes two mornings a week — Monday and Wednesday for the first three semesters, then Tuesday and Thursday for the final two — and complete the Associate in Applied Science degree in just five semesters. Graduates can also seamlessly transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree.
The program has already served 106 students and continues to attract interest from employers looking to strengthen internal leadership, reduce turnover, and build a more competitive workforce, Rodgers said. Many participants are able to complete the program with little to no student debt thanks to financial aid and employer tuition assistance.
