Watson, Castlen to give 2024 ‘State of Community’ addresses Thursday

Owensboro Mayor Tom Watson and Daviess County Judge-Executive Charlie Castlen will give the annual “State of the Community” addresses at Thursday’s Rooster Booster breakfast.

“The State of the City and State of the County Addresses have been a January Rooster Booster tradition for decades. We always look forward to hearing from our local government leaders, what their plans are, and how they intend to move us forward,” said Chamber President and CEO Candance Castlen Brake. “What a great time to get out and connect with one another as we kick off 2024.”

The program begins at 7:30 a.m. at the Owensboro Convention Center (501 West Second Street) and is co-sponsored by City of Owensboro and Daviess County Fiscal Court. Register to attend here or call the Chamber office at 270-926-1860.

Castlen is embarking upon his second year as Judge-Executive. He previously served 12 years as the Central Daviess County Commissioner, and prior to that served a total of 10 years as an Owensboro City Commissioner. He is a graduate of Brescia University and was a self-employed CPA with more than 38 years of experience in banking, public accounting, and government.

Watson first served as Mayor of Owensboro from 2005-2008. He was re-elected for a second term in 2016 and is now serving his third term. Watson is the former president and co-owner, with his wife Barbara, of Tom Watson’s Prosthetic and Orthotics Labs, Inc. He has served on many local, state, and national boards and has spent many years as a paraprofessional football and baseball coach at the high school and collegiate level. Watson was a recipient of the Owensboro Public School Hall of Achievement Award and was honored by the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association as a recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award for excellence in prosthetic care for people with limb loss.
