Chamber of the Week: Alexander & Company CPAs PSC

Edward T. Alexander formed Alexander & Company CPAs PSC in 1921, making the century-old business one of the oldest CPA firms in the state. Alexander moved to Owensboro at 29 and began the sole proprietorship in the old Masonic Lodge building on St. Ann Street.
Alexander was one of the state’s first CPAs. In less than three decades, he grew the company to feature locations in Paducah, Lexington, and Madisonville in Kentucky; Mt. Vernon in Illinois; and Evansville and Rockport in Indiana.
Leadership at the firm has since consolidated the regional locations to the Owensboro office, which made stops at 507½ Frederica Street and the Midtown Building before landing at 2707 Breckinridge Street in 1984.
The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce recognizes Alexander & Company as among one of its founding members.
“Our founder, E.T. Alexander, knew there was something special about Owensboro. That’s why he traveled here in 1921 to start his business,” said Joseph Keller, CPA and Managing Director for Audit and Assurance Services. “In fact, we just celebrated our 100-year anniversary. Owensboro commerce was primed to grow then and is still a central point of Western Kentucky business.”
Through the Great Depression, the Great Recession, and COVID, Keller said Owensboro has remained strong, and Alexander has been honored to be there through both the “thick and the thin.” He attributes much of that success to the community’s willingness to “give back.”
“Owensboro is known for the many worthy nonprofits that support our community in times of need and prosperity,” he said. “Alexander and Company is proud of the work we have done with our local nonprofits to help them be able to continue their worthy causes. We are truly blessed to be located in such a strong community.”
Alexander & Company CPAs PSC’s mission is to provide high-quality, efficient, and responsive professional services to businesses, not-for-profit and governmental organizations, and individuals, principally in the tri-state area. They offer audit and accounting services, systems evaluation and support, bookkeeping services, and more.
Keller said they also offer continuous personal and professional development programs, among other benefits, to attract, develop, and retain quality employees. Click here to learn more about the firm.
