Chamber Member of the Week: The Frozen Lounge

Eat. Drink. Vibe. That’s the motto of The Frozen Lounge, Owensboro’s premiere destination for frozen adult drinks, appetizers, live music, and more. Shanice Carbon opened the establishment in the former Gene’s Health Food Store on Sweeney Street this past spring and hasn’t looked back.

The exotic “slushee” menu boasts names like Kentucky Finest, Lucky Charms, Passion Fruit, Pink Lady, Lemon Drop, and more. With an assortment of options with or without alcohol, Carbon is confident she has something to satisfy anyone’s taste buds.

“The Frozen Lounge is an establishment for people to enjoy their favorite childhood slushies with a bit of an adult twist,” Carbon said. “Come in today to enjoy an alcoholic slushie with appetizers and an experience like no other.”

The menu features flight options where patrons can sample up to four flavors of slushies and an assortment of domestic and imported beers. Appetizers include chips and queso, sweet potato fries, buffalo chicken dip, mozzarella sticks, battered green beans, fried pickles, and chicken basket options.

Carbon arrived at the idea after taking her kids to get slushies in the summer, often adding her favorite shot to hers when she got home. She also wanted to create a laid-back environment in Owensboro that promotes conversation.

“I want to go somewhere where my friends and I would want to go and have a drink,” she said. “I wanted a nice location that was smooth, cool, and not too rowdy, a calm and collected spot where we could gather for a drink.”

Over the summer, The Frozen Lounge began doubling as an event venue; something Carbon said it would continue to do. Events range from bridal showers and corporate gatherings to children’s birthday parties, where they offer numerous non-alcoholic slushie options.

“Some people just want to come here with their spouse or friends, and they literally just talk,” she said. “I’ve had people come in here and talk for hours, sit on the couch and watch TV for hours, and just leave feeling good. That’s what I want.”
