Chamber Member of the Week: Advanced Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine

The Advanced Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine — formerly Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Owensboro (OSMO) — underwent several substantial changes in recent months. Established in 1962 by Dr. Joseph Stiles, the clinic has expanded and evolved to meet the community’s growing needs for nearly 60 years.

While undergoing a rebranding, the clinic is also pleased to add fellowship-trained foot and ankle surgeon Dr. Joseph A. Polio to their team of doctors. Polio joined the crew in the fall of 2020 and is highly skilled in treating sports injuries, fractures, deformities, and arthritis of the foot and ankle.

“Dr. Polio is committed to utilizing the latest, proven care options to help his patients feel better and get back to what they love,” said Executive Director Marella Yates. “We are excited to continue to provide patients with excellence in orthopedic care that is focused on the patient under a new name that we feel better reflects our team’s commitment and level of expertise.”

According to market research conducted by the clinic, what began as a small general orthopedic practice has evolved into the region’s “most preferred orthopedic practice.” The Advanced team features nine physicians, six physical therapists, five physical therapist assistants, seven athletic trainers, two occupational therapists, and one occupational therapy assistant.

The Advanced physicians boast more than 100 years of combined experience. They are committed to providing each patient with surgical and non-surgical care to injuries sustained to the ankle, elbow, foot, hand, hip, knee, shoulder, and wrist.

“At Advanced Center for Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, our entire team of medical professionals works hard to provide each patient with the compassionate, individualized care they need and deserve,” Yates said.

The clinic’s physical therapists offer functional dry needling for trigger point pain management, selective functional movement assessments, and functional movement screens. Ancillary services including X-ray, open MRI, fracture care, casting and bracing, cortisone injections, and workers’ compensation are also available on-site.

Advanced operates a walk-in express care clinic for patients who are suffering from acute orthopedic injuries and conditions. Their Urgent Care is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., and on Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.
