Chamber Member of the Week: Charles Schwab Evansville

Charles Schwab Evansville takes great pride in offering financial services to the entire tri-state. Located in the East Lloyd Commons on Burkhardt Road in Evansville, the branch is constantly growing its Owensboro footprint through community and Chamber involvement.

Charles Schwab started the San Francisco-based company in 1971 as a traditional brokerage before adopting a discount model in 1974. Schwab was a pioneer in the discount brokerage industry, something the company continues to value today.

“Because we operate as a discount brokerage, we don’t work on fees nor commission,” said independent branch financial consultant Chris Robinson. “We conduct business like most offices, offering everything from assisting clients with planning to advice on accounts, just without the fees.”

Robinson said the corporation manages over $8 trillion in assets and provides one of the largest marketplaces for investment advisors. Joe Helfrich owns the Evansville branch, which has access to everything Schwab but offers a more personalized experience.

“We want the folks in Owensboro to know they don’t have to work with the national branch – we’re right up the road, and we would love for them to come to see us,” Robinson said. “We give our clients full access to make decisions on our platform, but we are always available to arrange meetings or speak over the phone to answer questions.”

Helfrich owned a vending business before entering the financial world, while Robinson maneuvered the manufacturing industry. Robinson said their previous experiences enable them to connect with an assortment of people personally and maintain relationships with people from various sectors.

“Our experiences have connected us to what people do for a living and allow us to connect on a deeper level. That, paired with the Schwab name, makes us an attractive offer,” he said. “With our platform, over 31,000 employees, and a tremendous amount of resources – we’re here to empower clients to take advantage of their financial lives.”

Robinson added that the brokerage is well-known for its research and ability to be a “Swiss Army Knife” in the industry. Because they don’t work on fees or commission, they have no agenda to push.

“Our goal here is for every single person we work with to own their tomorrow,” Robinson said. “We are here to educate and empower – our first two goals with every client.”
