CYP and OMU partner for “Amped by Artistry” program to help beautify downtown Owensboro

The Owensboro Chamber of Commerce Chamber Youth Professionals and Owensboro Municipal Utilities (OMU), along with various other local businesses, have partnered together to introduce a new community project for local artists called “Amped Up Artistry.”

“Amped Up Artistry” is a project to help in the beautification of downtown Owensboro said Ashtin Warren, director of talent programs with the Owensboro Chamber of Commerce.

“The chamber saw this project as a way to help get younger community members involved,” Warren said.

The project will commission around 10 local artists to design and paint their artwork on traffic boxes in the downtown area. The theme for the art is “Bourbon, Bluegrass, & BBQ.”

“The artist gets paid $500 for their work,” said Stephanie Bertram with BHG Realty who is heading up the project. “Local businesses are sponsoring the traffic boxes for $1,500 to cover maintenance and supplies for the project.”

According to Bertram, the project was inspired by traveling to larger cities and finding a creative way to help beautify Owensboro’s downtown.

Interested artists need to apply with the Chamber of Commerce. They can do that by submitting their design in person at the Chamber of Commerce office at 200 East Third St., by email at owensborocyp@gmail.com or by visiting the Chamber Youth Professional’s Facebook page and looking for the post about the project with a link to a Google Form for submitting their designs.

The deadline for submissions is March 1 and the project is open to any area artist.
