Job Summary:
Owensboro Community and Technical College invites applications to apply for our part-time / temporary adjunct American Sign Language (ASL) position in the Heritage, Humanities, and Fine Arts Department. This role will provide instruction online and/or in-person, introductory ASL courses, and report to the Department Head of Heritage, Humanities, and Fine Arts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Teach online learner-centered student instruction in undergraduate courses in the discipline.
•Provide instruction to students in both theory and practice.
•Plan and carry out instructional activities, maintain records and reports on student attainment and progress.
•Utilization and care of the subject material within the learning management system – Blackboard Ultra.
•Possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, working with a diverse population, and the community and technical college mission.
•Keep abreast of changes in the respective field and help keep the program updated.
•Participate in professional development activities and training as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
•Strong MS Office Suites experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
•Strong problem-solving skills. Able to manage various issues and suggest new solutions to supervisor or others in handling unusual problems.
Education, Certifications, and Licenses:
•Master’s degree in a related field and proof of successful completion of 18 graduate semester hours of ASL courses
•Licensure & Certifications: RID (CSC, CDI, CI, CT, NAD IV, NAD V, NIC, CASLI), BEI Advanced, and/or ASLTA certification
Preferred Qualifications:
• A master’s degree in ASL
• Teaching experience using the Signing Naturally curriculum
• Knowledge of ACTFL, CCIE and ASLTA standards
• Experience teaching ASL classes.
