Overview:
The OHRC is governed by its Members’ Board and composed of two staff members: Executive Director and Administrative Assistant. Both staff positions directly answer to the President and the Executive Committee of the Board. The ideal candidate will provide administrative and clerical assistance to ensure the smooth functioning of the office, support the executive director and board members, and help facilitate community engagement efforts.

Currently this position is part-time and there are no benefits offered with this position. but there is potential of transitioning to a full-time role depending on funding and organizational needs.
Job Summary:
The Owensboro Human Relations Commission (OHRC) is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Administrative Assistant to support the daily operations of the Human Relations Commission. The objectives of the OHRC are to: administer a responsible human relations program for the City; promote mutual understanding, respect, and cooperation among various groups; enlist the support of civic, religious, labor, commercial and civil leaders; and receive and process complaints accordingly to the set policies.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The duties/responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Serve as the first point of contact for visitors, clients, and staff.
- Develop and maintain community relationships in coordination with the Executive Director and the goals of the OHRC.
- Maintain positive and effective relationships with individual and group members of the general public and community partners.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director to plan, organize, and manage community events.
- Maintain a calendar of activities, including community events, workshops, appearances, and other engagement opportunities.
- Assist with collecting, analyzing, and reporting relevant data.
- Support the Executive Director in daily administration of the OHRC business.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma along with four (4) years of relevant work experience is required.
- Associate degree in Business Administration or related field and two (2) years of relevant work experience is preferred.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external customers.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Must possess excellent oral, written communication skills and positive interpersonal skills.
- Strong ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Proficient in using a variety of computerized systems and databases, including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Organization’s Facebook page and other social media platforms, learning management systems, billing systems, and other essential software.
Salary: $18 per hour.
Work Hours:
- Monday-Friday, 9:00a.m. –2:00p.m. for a total of 25 hours weekly.
- Nights might be required once a month due to assistance with regular board meetings. Occasional weekend availability may be required.
- Any overtime worked will be accommodated through a flexible schedule to balance work-life needs.
