Imagine if we all lived ‘The Wesleyan Way’

Kentucky Wesleyan College made an announcement last week that amounts to great news for our community. President Bart Darrell has agreed to extend his contract with Wesleyan for 5 more years.

President Darrell did not plan the news conference. He prefers to let his actions speak and he does not like the spotlight.

So in deference to the way he operates, instead of writing a column about Bart, how he has been a trajectory for Wesleyan and how our community has already benefited from his return, I will let his campus credits speak for itself.

At the announcement we heard from each speaker about The Wesleyan Way. It is simple — it is grounded in the bedrock principles on which Wesleyan was founded.

According to President Darrell, the Wesleyan Way should embody “everything we do” and is built on four principles:

We succeed with honor.

We support one another.

We compete with integrity.

We love one another.

This is a simple message, but imagine how powerful our community could be if we embraced the “Wesleyan Way.”

Our higher educational institutions in Owensboro are incredibly important. They create an atmosphere of learning, of innovation and of example — all of which are vital aspects of a thriving business community in today’s environment.
